Welcome to the Mental Health in Education Psychology Lab. My name is Ollie Herdson and I’m a lecturer at the University of Kent, Canterbury. I run this lab alongside Dr Amir-Homayoun Javadi, another lecturer at the University of Kent.
Together, we want to build a vibrant and collaborative lab where both our research and our students can thrive. Our focus is on the mental health and wellbeing of students in higher education. As a result, our research aims to grant us a better understanding of why some students experience such high rates of conditions like depression and anxiety, and what we as educators and higher education institutes in general can do about it.
In recent years, we’ve looked at this from an emotional and cognitive point of view. We are now starting to consider how student personalities, academic attitudes, academic skills, and a fundamental understanding of mental health may determine students’ experiences.
Our lab prioritises teamwork and collaboration, and thus providing an environment where we and our students can learn from each other and grow. Together, we want to make an impact and help change higher education for the better, for good!
